Critical Registrar is an independent publication covering politics, society, economy, culture and ideas, with a particular interest in the people, institutions and forces shaping public life in Nigeria, Africa and beyond.

We began in 2014 as a print publication. For more than a decade, print was central to how we reported, discussed and documented the world around us. In 2025, The Critical Registrar transitioned fully to digital publishing, allowing us to reach a wider readership while retaining the editorial principles that shaped the publication from the beginning.

Our work is rooted in reporting, criticism and informed commentary. We publish news and analysis, but we are also interested in the stories behind events, the institutions behind decisions and the ideas that influence public life.

Culture is an important part of that work. We cover literature, visual art, music, film and other forms of cultural expression, alongside the people and institutions that sustain them. Our reviews are guided by judgment and argument rather than promotion.

We believe journalism should give readers more than a stream of events. It should provide context, ask difficult questions and make room for serious thought.

The Critical Registrar is editorially independent. We do not believe independence means detachment from the subjects we cover. It means being free to examine them honestly, to challenge accepted narratives and to reach conclusions based on evidence and judgment.
